Univanich’s fourth palm oil crushing mill is now under construction at the company’s new site in Phatthalung Province. It is planned to commission the new factory in October 2017.

To encourage the conversion of smallholder farms in Phatthalung Province, Univanich is constructing the company’s fourth large oil palm nursery at the company’s new factory site. The first buildings contain the nursery office and farmer training centre

In 2016, the Round Table for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) held their global Round Table annual conference for the first time in Thailand. Univanich showcased Thailand’s Four Pillars of Sustainable Palm Oil together with the achievements of the Univanich - Plaipraya Community Enterprise Group, the worlds first group of independent smallholders to have achieved RSPO certification. General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, admired the Univanich display presented to him by Plantations Director, Dr Palat Tittinutchanon.

As part of the company’s continuing support for schools and hospitals in the communities in which it operates, in 2016 Univanich donated funds for the construction of a new Kindergarten building at Baan Khlongpuan Prateepbamroong School in Krabi’s Plaipraya District.

At the 2016 Thailand Excellence Awards, Univanich General Manager Howard Hill accepted the Palm Oil Plantation Company of the year Award from Krithika Tyagarajan, Vice President, Frost and Sullivan. This is the fourth time Univanich has received recognition in the annual Thailand Excellence Awards.

Since 2013, the Company has promoted the use of barn owls to control rats in palm oil plantations instead of using chemical poisons. In 2016 the Company donated several pairs of barn owls to local farmers who are eager to adopt this more environmental friendly method of pest control.

During the latter part of 2015 and early 2016 the effects of the El Nino weather conditions were severe in the Southern Philippines denting the progressive growth that had been achieved at our joint venture Univanich Carmen Palm Oil Corporation factory. By late 2016 the recovery phase got underway with processing volumes increasing. The mill’s presence continues to give local small farmers the confidence to plant and expand their oil palm plantings, allowing for future growth

The Company is incorporating an Inclusive Business model working with small farmers and essential input suppliers to help Mindanao small farmers, the poorest region of the Philippines, to lift their families above the poverty line.
